Food Storage

Recently, I have been researching about food storage.  We bought some good bulk items (like rice) off Amazon.  Some good staple items such as flour, bean, and (of course) canned foods can be bought at Wal-Mart, Costco and your other favorite local stores.
Today we got out order from North Bay Trading Company.  I ordered a "few" freeze- dried items: Strawberries, kiwis, bananas, mushrooms, broccoli, and cherries.  Another company that I like is Shelf Reliance.  I have even bought some Honeyville Farms freeze dried products off Amazon. Some of the prices are cheaper on one OR the other sites.  There usually are some kind of monthly sales on North Bay, as well.  I usually just pick the site that is cheapest one for the item I am looking to buy.  For the strawberries and such I got today, the cheaper site was North Bay.
The good thing about freeze dried food is that it can last in storage for 20 years.  Also, it keeps more nutrients in the food than air dried (or dehydrated) food. It is a bit more expensive than the air dried food as well.
I try to buy some food storage every month.  A good thing about being in the military is that our commissary has great case lot sales.  We stock up on canned veggies, instant potatoes, and bottled water.
Another thing we do is to actually USE some of our food storage.  There is no point in storing food that you are not use to eating regularly.  We eat our freeze- dried grapes and bananas a lot. :) They are good from the container.  We have used the zucchini as well. I suggest food storage for EVERYONE.  And start today! You never know when you will need it: emergency weather wise, economy wise, job loss, etc.
